Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador Kit Boat Feasibility Study
Conach was engaged by the Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador toconduct a comprehensive feasibility study on the development and sale of a kit boatbased on the traditional Winterton Rodney design. Through extensive research,diagnostic assessments, and stakeholder engagement, the study evaluated technical,economic, legal, operational, and scheduling factors using a TELOS framework. Theproject identified strong local interest, market viability, and the potential for sustainableproduction through trusted partnerships and contracted CNC manufacturing.
The study concluded that launching the wooden kit boat is feasible and recommended aphased rollout targeting the Newfoundland and Labrador market, followed by expansionof the product line and online merchandising. Key recommendations included theintegration of the kit boat initiative into WBMNL’s broader revenue developmentstrategy, leveraging digital tools for marketing and live-streamed workshops, andextending the Museum’s operational season to support year-round engagement. Theproject highlights how traditional heritage can be reimagined as an innovative andeconomically viable product line.
