Miawpukek First Nation Capacity Building Project
Miawpukek First Nation Capacity Building Project
Strengthening Systems for Workforce Development and Economic Growth
Conach Consulting supported the Miawpukek First Nation (MFN) in a comprehensive capacity-building initiative for its Training and Economic Development Department (TEDD). This project focused on assessing current human resource structures, identifying skill gaps, updating job descriptions, and implementing performance evaluation and training tools for more than 60 employees. Using detailed surveys, workshops, and one-on-one consultations, Conach developed a full suite of HR resources—including personnel files, training plans, and revised job classifications—while addressing challenges related to integration, communication, and engagement across the department. A 4di leadership assessment was also delivered to strengthen management cohesion and strategic alignment.
Laying the Foundation for a Strategic Business Unit Model
Informed by consultations and best practices, the project recommended transitioning TEDD into a Strategic Business Unit within the Band—providing it with the flexibility and autonomy needed to respond to evolving training and economic development opportunities. A communications strategy, management structure, and performance tracking system were developed to support this shift. The project culminated in a draft vision and strategic direction for TEDD, aiming to bridge the gap between community economic development and business investment. This work highlights Conach Consulting’s expertise in workforce development, organizational planning, and Indigenous economic strategy.
