Discovery UNESCO Global Geopark Governance and Operational Renewal

Conach Consulting led a comprehensive governance and operational renewal initiative for the Discovery UNESCO Global Geopark, focused on strengthening board governance, improving operational effectiveness, and aligning with UNESCO standards. The engagement was structured across seven phases and involved reconceptualizing the Board of Directors to enhance representation and expertise, developing an Orientation Manual, implementing a training needs assessment, and conducting a detailed organizational audit. This process resulted in the creation of new governance structures, policy manuals, and risk mitigation plans, along with a 36-month action plan to guide ongoing improvements in leadership, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability.

The project’s success was underpinned by extensive collaboration with board members, community stakeholders, and funding partners including ACOA and DIET. Conach facilitated the development of standing committees, digital policy improvements, and a communications framework to rebuild stakeholder confidence. Through this work, Discovery UNESCO Global Geopark has laid a solid foundation for long-term success, positioning itself as a resilient and forward-looking organization committed to conservation, education, and sustainable development.
